Pictured above after being installed as the president of the Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association is Melvin Smiley, (4th from right). The Latimer Association is an organization of African/American electrical workers within Local 3, IBEW. Its namesake is credited with numerous inventions utilized within the electrical industry including the incandescent light bulb. It is involved in many charitable works within the general community throughout the year and presents an annual scholarship to children of members who are going on to college.
