William G. Riley Replaces Robert Ayello on Examining Board

The Executive Board, at its March 25th meeting elected William G. Riley to complete the unexpired term of Robert Ayello as a member of Local 3’s Examining Board. Brother Ayello resigned and accepted the position of Training Facility Coordinator with the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry (JIB). As Coordinator, Brother Ayello will be responsible for the design and operation of the new Training Center which was recently purchased. The Center is located in, Long Island City.
Brother Riley was initiated into Local 3 in October 1980. He served his “A” apprenticeship and became a journeyman in 1986. He has worked as an apprentice, journeyman, foreman and job steward.
As a job steward he worked under the direction of numerous business representatives including Douglas Griffith, Joseph Bechtold, Louis Sciara, Mark Hanson, Elliot Hecht and presently, for Ronald Bryan at Harlem Hospital for Mazzeo Electric.
Brother Riley is a graduate of Empire State College’s Harry Van Arsdale Jr. ­Center for Labor Studies (SUNY) where he received an associate degree in labor studies. In addition he completed the High Voltage Cable Splicing course in 1987 and graduated to junior splicer in 1990. He has worked as a junior splicer on numerous jobs. He has also volunteered as an instructor for the JIB and serves as a mentor in the MIJ Boot Camp.
He serves on the Local 3 Election Board, Loan Fund, Wage and Policy Committee and served on the 2001 “A” Contract Negotiation Committee and on the Work Sharing Sub-Committee for the 2007 “A” Contract Negotiations.
A member of the Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association, he has served as an officer of the Association for twenty-three years (23) and as its president for the last three. He is also a member of the Queens Allied Social Club, the Sportsmen’s Club, The Colony Club and the IBEW’s Electrical Workers Minority ­Caucus.
The proud father of Danielle, 15 years of age, and William Jr., 13 years of age, Brother Riley resides in Beautiful Electchester.
“A” Journeyperson Robert Ayello was elected to the Examining Board of Local 3, IBEW by the Executive Board on December 12, 2006. He filled the unexpired term of Edward F. Novey Jr., who served on the Board for twenty years. Brother Novey resigned his position due to the demands of his present position as Assistant Employment Director of the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry. His resignation was effective ­December 12, 2006.
Robert Ayello, after a four-year tour in the United States Navy, entered the apprenticeship of Local 3 in June of 1971. In 1976, Bob, as an MIJ faced with long-term unemployment, elected to travel throughout the IBEW. His stops included New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as well as San ­Bernardino and San Diego, California. In January of 1979, he returned home to Local 3 to complete his “M” year and received his “A” journeyman card in June of the same year.
He has been with the Albin Gustafson Company for twenty-five years as a journeyman, sub-foreman, foreman, and superintendent.
He is a member of the St. George Association Chapter 80 since 1981 and the Keystone Club. He is also a member of the Colony Club and is an advisor and former Chairman of the Christopher Columbus Festival ­Committee.
Bob is on the Foremen’s Committee of Local 3, and the Safety Committee. He teaches Lockout/Tagout, and the newly- formed Supervisor Training Classes at the Joint Industry Board.
Bob and his wife Yuk Ling have two children, Suzanne and ­Robert Jr. and one grandchild, Sophia Elizabeth.
