With ‘Friends” Like These, Who Needs Enemies?
NY Daily News columnist Albor Ruiz in his column of Sunday, December 13th brought to light the hypocrisy of politicians!
Ruiz’s article highlights the fact that senators and representatives in the federal government whose voting records are abysmal on worker’s issues are painting themselves as “pro worker” on the issue of undocumented workers.
According to Ruiz who is reporting on a recently issued report by America’s Voice Education Fund which “…reveals these lawmakers have consistently opposed any legislation that would benefit U.S. workers.”
Ruiz writes, “On November 20, 12 senators wrote to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, expressing opposition to the Obama administration’s intention to move forward on immigration reform ‘during these troubled economic times.’
‘We strongly encourage you to cease any discussion about enacting a legalization program that will only hurt U. S. workers and make it harder for law-abiding citizens to weather this economic downturn,” the lawmakers wrote.
The letter, signed by Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) and nine others, strikes a concerned tone about the potential of immigration reform to hurt U.S. workers.
Yet in the 110th Congress, all of them voted against raising the minimum wage, none voted for equal pay for women, and all received a grade of “F” from the AFL-CIO.
A peculiar way of fighting for U. S. workers, wouldn’t you say?
In the House, the 93-member Immigration Reform Caucus exists to push a deportation-only agenda. As a whole, their record on worker’s issues is abysmal: 65% voted against increasing the minimum wage; 80% voted against extending unemployment compensation; 92% voted against equal pay for women and 94% opposed the Employee Free Choice Act.”
Abraham Lincoln is quoted as stating, “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
DON’T BE FOOLED!!!
