Children of Local 3 members participated in numerous “field” games during the annual “Family Day Picnic” held June 6th at the Ridge Road Park in Westchester County.

We were again lucky to have a bright, sunny day at the Ridge Road Park on June 6th, 2009 for Local 3’s Annual “Family Day Picnic.” It was a great opportunity for members to come together and enjoy a special day of fun and relaxation with their co-workers and their families.
The Sword of Light Band was once again spectacular! Their grand entrance into the park and magical sounds delighted the crowd and put smiles on everyone’s faces.
There was something fun for everyone. The children had loads of fun with many great activities for children of all ages. There were arts and crafts, face painting, limbo dancing and clowns that entertained them throughout the day. The remote-control car races as usual were a big hit as were the swings and slides in the playground.

In attendance at the annual picnic held at Ridge Road Park were (l to r): Business Representative Michael Whalen and Assistant Business Manager Paul Ryan.

The picnic was not only for children, it was a wonderful day for all of us including some of our retirees who come out every year to this outing and enjoy seeing and exchanging stories with one another.
The food was delicious and plenty for everyone. On the menu were hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, corn, etc. and no one went home hungry. We held raffles and gave away door prizes to the winners but at the end of the day everyone felt they went home a winner.
Henry Lang, chairman of the Family Day Picnic Committee and his committee members did a great job setting up the park for the day which started early in the morning. It was also nice to see a good number of apprentices help out with all the tasks at hand like preparing the food, setting up the beverage stand and picnic tables, blowing up balloons, and setting up the barbecue grills, etc. There was a lot of behind the scenes work to be done and everyone pitched in which made it smooth sailing and the huge success it was.
Everyone had a terrific time and we look forward to seeing more brothers and sisters and their families come out to join us next year. Present at the annual picnic was Assistant Business Manager Paul Ryan and Business Representatives Thomas Capurso, Michael O’Neill and Michael Ryan.
